Follow the Star to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to enjoy the rich cultural heritage and delightful holiday traditions of the community known throughout America as “Christmas City USA.” Today, Bethlehem shines brightly as the historic heart of the beautiful Lehigh Valley. The city is aglow with candlelit windows, glittering trees and unique shops filled with holiday treasures.
Begin your visit with a stop at the Banana Factory, a warehouse converted into an artists’ co-op. Here you can shop in the Gift Shoppe and view the art galleries.
Experience Christkindlmarkt, a German market modeled after European holiday marketplaces, featuring market stalls with handmade crafts and decorations, music, holiday and specialty foods, craft demonstrations and more. If you tire of the Christkindlmarkt, venture onto Main Street where you will find unique shops and boutiques that have a late 19th century appearance.
Celebrate an old-fashioned Moravian Christmas in the breathtakingly-beautiful, 200-year-old Central Moravian Church. Wonderful Christmas carols and traditional Moravian Christmas hymns featuring singers, instruments and pipe organ make this an incredible experience you’ll remember forever.
Next experience a cherished Moravian tradition, the Putz, which retells the wonderful story of Christ’s birth through narration and music, while tiny lights illuminate each miniature scene. Many of the Putz figures, nestled amid live moss, driftwood and rocks, were brought here by Bethlehem’s very first settlers.
Enjoy a buffet dinner (included) at a local Bethlehem restaurant. Following dinner, complete your visit to the area with a Night Light Tour. A guide in early Moravian costume will narrate a tour of Bethlehem’s historic area. The evening concludes with a fantastic view of the city and the entire Lehigh Valley from atop South Mountain, home of the famous Star of Bethlehem.
