Enjoy this one-day tour that enables you to savor two of the country’s most exquisite popular public gardens . . . Longwood Gardens and Winterthur.  Located in the Brandywine River Valley countryside, Longwood Gardens and Winterthur, an American Country Estate, share roots as former du Pont family estates and offer a world of contrast for the garden lover.

Longwood Gardens was once the country estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont.  Longwood is famous for its splendid outdoor gardens, which include elaborate fountains, a formal rose garden and greenhouses.  While here you will have time to visit the Peirce-du Pont House, the Conservatory and leisurely walk through the natural woodlands and formal landscaped gardens.  Before departing for Winterthur, take time for lunch (on your own).  You will leave Longwood at approximately 1:30 P.M.

Next, travel to the Winterthur Museum and Gardens, former home of Henry Francis du Pont.  This museum has the largest and richest assemblage of early American interior architecture, furniture and decorative accessories ever brought together.  Enjoy a 45-minute guided tour of some of the 100 rooms and marvel at the extraordinary antiques and lavish floral arrangements.  Take time to stroll or ride a tram (weather permitting) through the gardens.  You will leave Winterthur at approximately 5:00 P.M.
