Travel with us to visit the Brandywine River Museum, Chadds Ford, PA. The museum is located along the Brandywine River, a river that winds from Southeastern Pennsylvania into Delaware carving out beautiful rolling hills and valleys. Founded in 1971, the museum, a restored 19th-century gristmill, combines the elegance of art with the grandeur of nature with glass-walled lobbies providing expansive views of the river and hills beyond. The Brandywine River Museum houses an internationally known collection of works by three generations of Wyeths . . . N.C., Andrew and Jamie as well as the works of other American artists. Upon arrival at the museum, enjoy a one-hour guided tour. No stop is made en route to the museum.

While here, take some time to visit the gift shop which offers a wide selection of gifts, art reproductions, cards and a variety of books. See the wildflower gardens – featuring plants native to the Brandywine Valley – surrounding the museum in glorious color from spring through autumn. Enjoy lunch (on your own) in the museum’s cafeteria-style restaurant.

After lunch, depart for Wilmington, DE and a 3-hour tour of the Nemours Mansion and Gardens. This modified Louis XVI chateau was built in 1909-1910 on the 300-acre estate of Alfred I. du Pont. The 47,000-square-foot mansion contains European antiques, tapestries, Oriental rugs and paintings as well as several of A.I. du Pont’s innovations, such as an ice-making plant. The estate has beautiful French-style gardens that extend a third of a mile from the house.

En route home, stop for a buffet dinner (included).
